Hua Hin, Day 26

Oooh, that was an interesting night! I was woken up by the stormy, windy weather about 3am. We'd had some cloudy weather yesterday and saw that this was due to the remnants of some bad weather coming from the Cambodia and China direction.

15 Dec 2024

As this is our last day in Hua Hin, we were planning to just take it easy in the morning by having our last breakfast at the beach restaurant and then chilling until we needed to depart our room and head to the train station. However, there was quite a bit of activity and commotion when we got to the restaurant as it seems the stormy weather had battered some of the front and damaged the foundation area of the Lu la Lemon beach caravan area.

So of course, whilst various staff members where clearing out everything from the caravan, there were lots of gawpers (us included but from our restaurant table) and some other well-intentioned hotel guests giving their advice to the staff on what to do.

Now I may be jumping the gun, but one of these guests was someone that I had identified on day 1 as "a right pain in the arse" - you know the loud type, speaks a little too patronisingly to the staff, makes additional requests for absolutely everything, orders stuff that is not on the menu, hogs and fiddles with the toast machine whilst being oblivious/ignorant to others around him waiting to use it etc. He had even managed to get a couple of coffee mugs, so when everyone else just used the coffee cups, he would use his mug! We'd even seen them be relocated from one of the beach huts in the courtyard area to a beach front one, so he either must have complained or upgraded for that. His poor wife seemed nice enough, but he would have me demented (as you can no doubt tell from this post!). I know German citizens can sometimes get a bad reputation for things (just like the English can), but for goodness' sake, just shut up and enjoy the place without annoying everyone else (including me!).

Anyway, after breakfast, we decided to finish off our coffee (me) and juice (R) outside and watch the activities from a distance. It was great to see business continuity in action, as they young seller started to set up her lemonade stand in an alternative location whilst the others got to grips with moving the caravan (many barefooted I may add too) to a slightly better space, so they could shore up the foundation temporarily with sand bags (empty bags that they filled with sand from the beach). It would have been fab if they had also cordoned off the area from the nosy guests and onlookers whilst they were doing all of this, as there was a mixture of people swarming the area. The waves are quite wild, and even though there is still some wind too, the sun has started to belt through. I guess a number of the beachfront properties will be assessing any damage this morning as they similarly get things back into order for another day.

Unfortunately, as we had packed most of our bags and things last night, I didn't have my usual little back bag with me, so I didn't have my sunglasses to hand and as I was wearing an old pair of lulu lemons (for travel purposes), I was fearing getting some weird sun burn patterns on my legs from the strong sun, so we retreated back to our hotel room to pass some time before we need to leave. We then checked out of the hotel, ordered a Grab to the station (as we risk assessed, it's not worth it trying to lug our bags to the station in this heat!). Our train wasn't until 14.40hrs, but we just read our books, and at least we were in the shade. Then we were on the train back to Bangkok - this time we had air-conditioned seats, so it was not as noisy as it was the previous time. Once we arrived in Bangkok, we ordered another Grab and arrived at our new Home Exchange apartment just after 7 pm, and then we met our match.....Neko!
