Chatachuk - here we come!

Our plan for today is to head out with S & Ms R to Chatachuk Market. So, after a light breakfast (coffee, yoghurt and half a Custard Nakamara bun each), we head to the Sukhumvit MRT and take the train to the Kamphaeng Phet MRT stop. Note: that is a top tip. If you get off at the earlier stop at Chatachuk Park MRT, then you have a bit of a walk to the Chatachuk market, whereas the Kamphaeng Phet stop drops you right at a corner of the market (and close to a mall, which we had no idea even existed the last time we visited here!).
Chatachuk Market
Now I know I covered this in last year’s blog when we visited, but just to recap, Chatachuk Market is the largest weekend market in the world. Spanning 35 acres and divided into 26 sections, the market features over 15,000 stalls, offering everything from food and art to antiques, fashion and much more!
We arrived at the Chatachuk market around 10.30 am, and it was pretty quiet. We had asked Drs K & P the night before if this would be opened, as it was a holiday, and they said it would be. Looking at the empty streets, shuttered closed shop areas and lack of people, it felt like we were in the wild west and just missing the tumbleweed blowing past. S & Ms R had already departed company from us as soon as we got into the market, so we started to walk around in the hope that it was just that it was still early and people were only starting to open up.
Mixt Chatuchak Mall
As it was still quite quiet, we decided to nip into the mall right beside the market. Now we never realised that there was a mall right beside the open market area the last time we were here, but this time we decided to explore it - you must have realised by now that we cannot pass up a mall inspection opportunity!
Mixt Chatuchak Shopping Centre offers a wide range of unique and exclusive goods from a large number of shops from the Chatuchak Weekend Market and other retail markets through 700 stores, and a street food-style food court, with dishes starting at just THB 30 or about USD 1. Mixt Chatuchak is open every day! Visitors and tourists who love markets and finding great deals will enjoy an improved shopping experience at Mixt Chatuchak.

This mall was a lot better than we expected, and I could not believe some of the prices of the items here. Translation: I bought more items than I planned to (or probably have space for!), but I could not pass up on the amazing bargains. As a result, we quickly informed the girls to head to the market, as it was cool and had lots of interesting things. Included in this was a cat and dog cafe, as well as some other reptilian animals.
After spending a lot longer here than we planned, including having a spot of lunch, we then headed off to the actual market, which was much busier now that many of the stalls had opened for business.

We walked around some of the market stalls for quite a bit - his nibs was looking for a plain, black baseball cap. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get such an item? Or perhaps it is just the very fussy R (most probable). The quest for the cap will need to continue as our tired and weary bodies had had enough, so off we trotted home.
The girls were still floating around the market by the time we got home (we could see this from the 360 app), and by the time they got home, the weather had turned a little ominous-looking. Yes, dear readers, we experienced RAIN for the first time in Thailand. Ok, so I might be being a little more dramatic in my description than it actually was and I would try and add a video here but for some reason, I have not been able to fathom how to connect my videos via this hosting site (Note: I did try this previously with another post, but I just ended up with a big empty space in the post - similar to my head I expect you are saying!).

With that we settled in for the night with our shop bought ready-made meals and a good movie. Of course, a little bit of rain did not stop the girls from getting dolled up and going out....

And with that, we had another day in the bag...
