Bangkok, Day 9.

After our day on the River, we decided to have another more gentle day. We both have some computer tasks to complete, so our day starts off as normal with a shower and a light breakfast, and we also take the opportunity to put on a washing - feels just like being at home....

After a few hours of work/surfing/reading, we decide and brace yourself for this dear readers, to go and investigate the condo gym and pool facilities. Yes, dear readers, I'm talking about ME going to a gym! So in my very stretchy gym/cycling shorts and sports top off we went (don't worry, I shall spare you a photo!).

Thankfully the Gods were on our side and there was no other residents in either location, so no-one could see us looking like complete muppets trying to work out how to use the exercise machines. However, we did have success in switching them on, and we chose to work on the cross-trainer and bike machines. The gym in the condo complex is quite small and only has 5 machines: a bench press with weights, a running machine, a bike and a cross-fit machine but I think it's suitable as the complex is not that big and we never seem to see anyone in the gym when we are going in or out. Thankfully, the room also has air conditioning. So after about 10 minutes on each of the machines - obviously we didn't want to overdo things, (and we were also knackered!) - we cleaned and switched everything back off and then went and changed and showered for a swim in the pool.

The pool was delightful, and I can barely believe that we have been here for 9 days and this is our first time at the pool. There is just so much to see and do, and by the time we get back 'home', we usually just want to shower and chill in the apartment. However, we really should make more effort to use the pool, as it was delightful. After our pool dip, we relaxed on the recliners, reading our books for a bit before we decided it was time to go back upstairs to get ready and head out for something to eat.

We headed back to Took Lae Dee (in the Eight Thonglor shopping mall), where we'd had lunch before and so that we could try some other items on their menu. The lovely man recognised us and we got our 'usual' seat again. This time I got a chicken papaya salad and R got a pork and rice dish. We both asked for them to be just 'a little spicy', and we did the tiny finger gesture, spicy. OMG!!! Our mouths were on FIRE, and each mouthful just built up the spiciness intensity!

Afterwards, I got the coconut ice-cream to try and cool down my poor little mouth and lips, and R went for a dish that he had wanted to get previously, but I had inadvertently asked for two of the same desserts (the bean curd pudding in coconut milk). This time he was quite smug that he was getting sesame dumplings in a hot ginger sauce - well, you should have seen his face when his boiling hot dumpling soup arrived! Later, we came across this in the menu of another restaurant, and I think it was a translational issue. So instead of the sticky sweet sauce he expected, his watery spicy hot ginger soup was a bit of a disappointment - the dumplings were very nice though (and my ice-cream was delish!)

After being fed, we left the shopping mall to explore the area a little more and very quickly we stumbled across yet another mall, the Marche Thonglor. Again, this was really very beautiful and big, but not very busy at all. I can't quite understand a) how all these shopping centres get built and b) how they survive if they don't get the footfall through them. We wandered around here for a bit before stopping off at the supermarket in the building to buy a few groceries for our evening dinner, and then headed back to the apartment.

After dinner in the evening we went out for a little walk and discovered another Japanese bakery - so a few items purchased in there and then we called it a night.
