Bangkok, Day 27

We had a great sleep and woke up to our first full day in our Sathorn Home Exchange apartment, where we are staying until the beginning of January.

Now, as I alluded to previously, we are not alone here - we are sharing the apartment with Neko the cat. So he was very hungry when we arrived, and the first thing we did was give him some of his weight control diet food. Of course, we very quickly realised that our partnership and acceptance are pretty much fully dependent on food, attention to his needs and head and back pets. We have been warned not to touch his very big belly, which he will tempt us to try and stroke when he is in a cute, submissive pose. (Note: the belly displays did not start immediately, but as he has gotten used to us, he's happy to show it off and dare us to touch it.)

So, after a light breakfast in the apartment, thanks to our hosts who kindly left us some food goodies, our first priority was to have a quick look around the area, then get some groceries and some lunch before heading back to the apartment.

We mapped out a large square area nearby and started our walk along Thanon Thuan Phlu Road which is a lovely, very busy and quaint road with lot of shops, food sellers, restaurants and bars. We still cannot quite get used to all the wire cables everywhere, but there are so many trees and greenery that is just adds to the chaos and charm.

We passed the Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep and of course I did get a photo taken with it in the background for old times sake. Of course it wasn't until later when writing this up that I actually saw the size of the campus and it's huge - perhaps we should have just blagged our way in to have a look...

Then it was time to head over to the big TOPS grocery store, which is nearby and which also has the food court that we have been enjoying a number of our meals at. I had a noodle and pork, and R had a pork and noodle soup dish - both were delicious and very inexpensive. Then we got our groceries. We got our usual stock items of bananas, yoghurts, juice, diluting juice, cheese, some ham and a few snack treats. After lunch we went back to the apartment to put the items away, feed Neko some more of his diet food and have a bit of a rest for a wee while. Then, after we had rested and refreshed, we made our way to the nearby Makro.

We were planning to just have a walk there, but we ended up getting some great bargains from the bakery section that had been reduced - so that was us stocked up on enough food for at least a few days. That said, they did have some interesting items - jellyfish anyone???

And that was another day in the bag for us. Back home again and we showered and rested before having some of our Makro bargains for dinner, feeding Neko and settling down for the evening with some of our favourite shows on the big living room telly.
