We’ve had a few days of just chilling and not doing anything too exciting.
A retired ex-work colleague recently passed away, and her funeral was on the 29th, so I spent a little time reflecting on my time with her. Margaret was like a second mum to me when I first started work at 18. She must have been in her fifties then (so around my mum’s age). She was a lab assistant, and along with another part-time lab assistant, they looked after all the Department's glass-cleaning and autoclaving requirements. Margaret was also responsible for ensuring all the cheese, crisps, and glasses were ready for the seminar receptions. She was very hardworking and quite a character. I’m laughing as I think of some of the things that happened during those years with her, but I probably shouldn’t put them down in writing! I didn’t see or keep in touch with Margaret after she retired, but I was absolutely delighted to see her when she came to my own retirement event in late 2024. She looked older and frailer, but she was still Margaret and as sharp as a tack. Margaret was a huge Rangers (Scottish football) fan, and this Tina Turner song was one of her favourites… RIP Margaret x
On Saturday, we decided to visit the Intermark Mall, but before you groan about not another bloody mall, the highlight was that we were going to use the MRT for the very first time!! Whilst we like to walk and Kuala Lumpur is quite walkable, the heat drains you, so you do need to take this into account for any places that you are visiting. Our apartment location is about a 10-15 minutes' walk to some stations, but to get to the Intermark Mall, we thought it was just a little too far to walk and then tackle the mall itself. Now, another reason we like malls is that we usually get a lot of steps when we walk around them. We can also get something to eat and pick up any groceries we need.
So off we went and took the MRT from Bukit Bintang to Ampang Park (via a line switch at Tun Razak Exchange). The Intermark Mall is close to the MRT station. However, this is quite a small mall, and there wasn’t very much to it, so it didn’t take us very long at all to go around it. I wasn’t feeling very hungry, but R managed to get a very tasty lunch from Dodo Korea in the lower ground food mall.
