Woo Hoo - R is fighting fit and ready for another action-packed day in Bangkok! Ok, maybe that’s not the most accurate description, but he is feeling much better and ready to grace S and me with his presence on our next adventure.
A little while back (forgive me as I have lost track of the days!), we had looked at the map and thought we would like to have a look around the Chulalongkorn University campus. If you know us, then you know that having spent so much of our working lives in a university, we have a bit of a soft spot for them. We also noted this University when we went to the Siamscape building, which is affiliated with the University. However, the day that we originally planned to look at this area took an unexpected turn, and we ended up pretty exhausted from the other areas that we had been to, so we missed it. Not to be put off, it was back on the agenda for today’s outing.
It was a bit later than normal by the time we were organised to go out, so we decided to nip into Centrla Embassy for some lunch before doing our tour of Chulalongkorn University. And you’ll never guess who we bumped into – only A&A on their way back from CentralWorld and heading back to the apartment. We all ended up having the delicious pork and wanton soup bowls – I think this was my third time for this dish, but it is so tasty and hydrating! After lunch, we parted ways with A&A and headed to the University.
Chulalongkorn University is a public autonomous research university in Bangkok. The university was originally founded during King Chulalongkorn’s reign as a school for training royal pages and civil servants in 1899 at the Grand Palace. It was later established as a national university in 1917, making it the oldest institute of higher education in Thailand.
The university is composed of nineteen faculties, a School of Agriculture, three colleges, ten institutes and two other schools. Its campus occupies a vast area in downtown Bangkok. Graduates customarily receive their diplomas from the King of Thailand.
To get to the University, we walked to Siam and then went behind the Siam Square area and walked a short distance until we arrived at the start of the campus, which seems to start just behind the Siamscape building. From there, we just walked around the paths available, and we eventually came to one of the main areas with some very old and beautiful buildings. The campus was quiet as it was a Sunday, so there were no students or staff around and apart from the gardening and security staff and some visitors and people getting photos taken, we had the campus grounds to ourselves to roam around. It is a beautiful campus, and we really enjoyed walking around it.

As we had gone out later than normal, by the time we had covered the university grounds and started to make our way back, it was really hot and busy as the schools had emptied and workers were starting to leave work and head to the shops and restaurants. We were hot and disgusting by the time we walked back to the apartment, having picked up our groceries on the way home.
